Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common condition that can cause acne, irregular periods, weight fluctuations, and other hormonal imbalances. There are lots of myths and misunderstandings around PCOS. For example, you don't actually have to have cysts on your ovaries to have PCOS. It might feel overwhelming, but you don't have to live with these symptoms forever. By understanding the root causes and making tailored changes, it's absolutely possible to manage and even clear these symptoms long-term, helping you feel like yourself again.
PCOS occurs when the ovaries produce higher-than-normal levels of androgens, which are sometimes called 'male hormones.' This hormonal imbalance can interfere with the development and release of eggs during ovulation, leading to the formation of small cysts on the ovaries. These changes can cause a range of symptoms, from irregular periods to acne and hair growth.
